Cllr. Les Topham

Stratford District Councillor

Les Topham is an established, long-serving Conservative District Councillor. He is currently Leader of the District Council and in the past he has held other high profile positions including Chairman of the Council, Chairman of various planning committees and has also held the Porfolio for Local Economy. Since becoming Leader of the Council in January 2005, the Council has dramatically improved its performance in all aspects and he is recognised as being an important contributor to this success.

Les grew up in Birmingham before moving to Mappleborough Green nearly 30 years ago. He was first appointed a District Councillor in 1996 and is well known for actively participating in local affairs throughout the Sambourne Ward. After leaving school, Les worked as a fireman on the railways, National Service saw him as a Champion Heavyweight Boxer and after a time working for British Leyland, Les established his own garden centre in Mappleborough Green. This thriving business contributes greatly to the local economy. As a businessman, Les is only too aware of the pressures facing small businesses at the present time.

When Les has time to spare from his District Council duties, he enjoys restoring classic cars, caring for his horses and spending time with his wife, Gill, to whom he has been married for 46 years.
