Cllr. George Atkinson

Since 1981 I have lived within the Stratford upon Avon District Council area and have been actively involved in Parish Council, District Council and, currently, Warwickshire County Council responsibilities as an elected member.
I am married, since 1962, have two daughters and two granddaughters. My principle career started in 1960 with a subsidiary of the Midland Bank (now HSBC) in Newcastle upon Tyne (I am a Geordie), but was promoted to a role in Head Office in Birmingham.
Stratford District is a very rural area, covering about ½
of Warwickshire. I firmly believe in the maintenance of the green belt zone, protecting our rural
environment from inappropriate development.
It has been my privilege to represent Tanworth in Arden ward as County Councillor since 1997; I am delighted to become your District Councillor as well. I see considerable advantage in combining the two roles, because it will give residents a co-ordinated source of enquiry to deal with the demands both authorities have to satisfy in giving a service to residents. I look forward to working alongside Tony Dixon serving the residents of the Tanworth ward.
